Adrienne Smith, Junior Associate

With more than 10 years of experience in fundraising and communications in the community, humanitarian and governmental sectors, Ligia Peña has collaborated with numerous organizations on various aspects of fundraising.

With a master’s degree in political science, Ligia is perfectly trilingual (English, French and Spanish). Having been greatly involved in different causes since her youth, she has created fundraising special events that continue to be organized annually.

Her work took her to London, England where she developed and managed the Canada’s department of foreign affairs public diplomacy programme. After that experience, Ligia decided to focus on the community sector where she re-structured an organization’s most important annual fundraising special event. As a result, the organization increased its net revenue by 70% from previous years.

Ligia has been offering fundraising consulting services since 2006. She has offered fundraising trainings and workshops to different community organizations, to member-organizations of the Montreal Board of trade, at Vanier College and Dawson College.

She is currently the President of the Board of Directors at Apathy is Boring, and volunteers for War Child Canada and Equitas. Since February 2009, Ligia sits on the board of the Quebec Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Ligia is a member of the Quebec chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, and l’Association des professionnels en gestion philanthropique.
