Your Asking Style

Fundraising professional and author extraordinaire Andrea Kihlstedt is co-founder of Asking Matters. Andrea and Brian Saber have developed a fantastic online tool to assess your asking style. They believe that if everyone understand their fundraising style, they will be more comfortable asking for gifts and will have far greater success in raising funds, says their website.

This makes total sense to me. The more you know yourself, the better fundraiser you can be. So I did the test. It confirmed what I already knew but it also made some recommendations to make sure my “asks” are successful. According to Asking Matters, I’m an intuitive introvert which makes me a Kindred Spirit with Mission Controller as a secondary style.

Have you taken the test? What’s your asking style?

  1. I am so honored that you have written this piece about asking styles. How wonderful to have people like you appreciating our thinking and work on this topic. Ligia, I hope one day we have a chance to meet. Perhaps I can lure you to visit in the Big Apple one day soon.Thank you so very much.

The notion of Asking Styles seems to be catching on. More and more people are learning their styles and working with their boards and staff members so that they approach this fundraising business in a way that suits them best. It’s exciting to see these ideas make a difference in the field! Thx again.

    • The pleasure is all mine Andrea. I’m just grateful for smart people like you and Brian who have developed this fantastic tool to help fundraisers be more successful. As for going to NYC, no luring required, I will happily go any day! I’m hoping sometime before the summer *fingers crossed*. We will meet for sure, you’re on my “Fundraising Rock Stars” list :)

Actually, I’m hoping to lure YOU to Montreal. I’m on the AFP-Quebec chapter board and just joined the Education committee. You are on my list of recommended speakers. We should have a meeting soon to start planning this spring & next year’s sessions so I’ll keep you posted. Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog!
