Statistics Canada recently released their annual statistics on charitable donors based on Canadian tax filers. Here are some of their findings:
- Canadian tax filers claimed donations of just under $8.3 billion in 2010, up 6.5% from 2009.
- At the same time, the number of donors increased 2.2 % to just over 5.7 million Canadians, but the average age of donors remains 53 – a figure that has remained relatively the same for the past decade.
- In 2000, 22 % of donors were 35 to 44 compared with 17 % in 2009, which was mimicked closely in the tax-filer population of that age range falling from 24 % in 2000 to 17 per cent in 2009.
- The national median donation was $260 in 2010, which was also $10 more than the median in 2009.
